City Conducting Controlled Burn on Tall Grass Prairie

Controlled Burn Fire

If you notice some smoke around the Ness Avenue area between now and Friday, there’s no need to worry.

The city’s Public Works Department will  be conducting a controlled burn at Living Prairie Museum — weather conditions permitting.

Fire plays an important role in the preservation and restoration of prairies. Lack of fire allows weeds to take over and destroy the endangered plant communities.

Controlled burns have been taking place on Winnipeg’s tall grass prairie since 1986.
