This weekend’s Play On! hockey tournament will no doubt be impressive, as over 200 teams get ready to hit Memorial Boulevard for two days of road hockey action beginning on Saturday.
Approximately 1 km of street will be closed along Memorial in front of the Provincial Legislature. The tournament will not leave anybody out, as divisions for men, women, boys, girls, and coed teams of all ages and skill levels will be involved.
Competing on nearly 20 street ‘rinks’ operating non-stop for two whole days, this is something you definitely want to check out if you’re in the area.
The event will also feature a celebrity street hockey game involving Winnipeg’s own Nigel Dawes of the Phoenix Coyotes (held at Noon on Saturday) and a CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada sponsored breakaway competition (held at Noon on Sunday). Teams and other hockey fans can also take in a special event social (held at Tavern United Downtown) and enjoy the Penguins vs. the Hurricanes on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night.
The entire event is free to spectators.
