First-Place Goldeyes Sign New Pitcher

Winnipeg GoldeyesThe first place Winnipeg Goldeyes announced today the signing of left-hander Tim Layden — which brings the team’s roster up to 22 — the league’s maximum.

Layden, 26, started the year off with Sioux City of the American Association where he holds a career 19-21 with a 4.03 earned run average.

In other Fish news, the Goldeyes are not only the best team in the Northern League right now, they are the best team in independent baseball. Out of the 63 teams in the eight independent leagues, Winnipeg ranks as one of only four teams with a wining percentage greater than .700.

The action continues tonight at Canwest Park, as the Goldeyes take on Gary beginning at 7 p.m. Many great seats are still available.
