Canada Day in Kenora, Ontario will be celebrated on Independence Day — sort of.
Organizers for Kenora’s downtown business association are planning their usual Canada Day activities this year on Saturday, July 4, because July 1 falls on a Wednesday. Each year the city hosts festivities and caters to the Winnipeggers who make their way out to Lake of the Woods during the holiday. However, this year they feel there won’t be any point of planning a Wednesday celebration, because most folks will stay in the city with another two more days of work before the weekend begins.
This has irked a few local residents who accuse organizers of being unpatriotic.
Mort Gross, spokesman for the downtown biz, says fireworks will be moved back to their original day when July 1 falls on a weekend again — which will be in a couple years.
