The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is condemning the cost of the new canopy above the Legislative Building’s wheelchair ramp. At a cost of $175,000 to taxpayers, they have every right to be upset.
“The price tag is obscene,” said Manitoba director Colin Craig. “No one would question constructing a covering to protect the ramp’s users, but surely something tasteful could have been designed, built and installed for a fraction of the cost.”
Compared to the price of an average home in Winnipeg at $203,900, the cost of the ramp is just shy of that, Craig noted.
