Winnipeg has lost out to Fairfax, Virginia to host the 2015 World Police and Fire Games. Toronto was also hoping to play host, but couldn’t secure the games either, which draws 10,000 competitors to participate in about 60 activities.
Premier Gary Doer, Winnipeg police chief Keith McCaskill and United Firefighters of Winnipeg president Alex Forrest — whom are all co-chairs of the Winnipeg committee — congratulated Fairfax this weekend.
The games generate about $100 million in revenue for the host city.
