It was a busy weekend at Assiniboia Downs, as the 61st Manitoba Lotteries Derby had race fans on the edge of their seats.
Smuggler’s Hold — trained by Rick Padilla — pegged off horses left and right to win the Derby in front of 4,500 people. Smuggler’s Hold went three wide into the final turn, which was enough to capture the lead turning for home. Following close behind and rounding out the top 3 were Hilton’s Cherokee and Wooden Ya Know It, who were part of the last three horses at the beginning of the race.
