Assiniboia DownsAssiniboia Downs was the place to be for race fans on the weekend, with two nights packed with exciting action.

Brinello was too much for the younger horses to handle, taking the lead in the $50,000 Agassiz Stakes on Friday, proving he is the best Manitoba-bred on the grounds. This latest win makes it three-in-a-row for Brinello and owner/breeder Dr. Ross McKague.

But the big surprise of the night was Thunder Sky, going off at 12 to 1 capturing her third Distaff. The 8-year-old mare also claimed similar titles in 2006 and 2007.

Action at the track resumes on Wednesday with a post time of 7 p.m.
