Despite the cooler weather this summer, Manitoba Conservation announced this week that camping reservations were up from last year.

A total of 58,111 reservations were made, which is an increase of 8.6% from 2008.

Officials say that campers took advantage of the improved online reservation system at ManitobaParks.com, which helped to fill campsites.

A number of improvements are underway for the 2010 camping season, which include a new washroom facility at Grand Beach and Birds Hill Park. Tenders for new facilities at Childs Lake and Wellman Lake were also awarded, and are expected to be completed by next year.
