Three people are lucky to be alive after their plane made a crash landing approximately two miles north of the Gimi Airport on Saturday.
The pilot of the single engine plane — a four seat Stinson — reported engine troubles and was going to set down in a farmer’s field as he was not going to make the airport runway. The plane ended up making a crash landing into a tree line. The 63 year-old-pilot from Stonewall and two male passengers survived the crash.
The two passengers did not require medical attention, while the pilot was taken to Gimi Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP say the plane was recently restored with a complete engine rebuild and was being flown for the first time today.
