As we told you about in September, Manitoba Homecoming 2010 filed an application with the Guinness Book of World Records to hold the “World’s Largest Social” in May 2010.
Now that plan is closer to becoming a reality as numerous communities have jumped on board.
“Not only is this a chance to celebrate and reconnect with family and friends, it’s an excellent fundraising opportunity,” said Kevin Walters, Manitoba Homecoming Executive Director. “Each town that has agreed to host a social has been asked to choose an organization or charity to receive the funds generated from the event. In Winnipeg, a social is being planned at the Convention Centre with the proceeds being shared between the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba and the Children’s Hospital Foundation.”
Confirmed to date are Beasejour, Brandon, Carmen, Cypress River, Dauphin, Gimli, Grande Pointe, La Broquerie, McCreary, Morden, Morris, Neepawa, Russell, Shoal Lake, Souris, Steinbach, The Pas, Thompson, Virden and Winnipeg.
The big night happens Saturday, May 15, 2010.
