Police LightResidents in the Riverview area of Winnipeg might be wondering what’s going on later today when the Winnipeg Police perform a mock search and rescue exercise.

Exercise WINSAR 2009 will happen at 1 p.m. today in the vicinity of the Riverview Heath Centre. The exercise will simulate a vulnerable person missing from a personal care home who is believed to have wandered into a residential area or river bank area in the vicinity of the centre.

The Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Unit will take part and is trained to manage large scale searches and conduct searches in terrain where normal search procedures would not be appropriate.

Other agencies involved include Search and Rescue Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner and Child Find Manitoba.
