The Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball team has recruited two high school students for the 2010-11 season.
Rachel Cockrell and Kierstyn Bakker were announced as recruits on Tuesday and were both all-stars in their young careers.
“I’m so excited to have Rachel with us for the 2010-11 season and beyond. It’s not too often you can recruit such a dynamic athlete who has a 35” vertical jump to your program! She is a super kid and a great addition to our team,” head coach Ken Bentley said. “Kierstyn was already playing outstanding volleyball in the tenth grade, and I have continued to follow her development throughout her club career. Not only is she a talented kid, but a fierce competitor who has the desire to train and compete at the university level. I’m very happy to have Kierstyn join the Bisons program.”
Rachel Cockrell, 17, comes from Westwood Collegiate and has both silver and gold medals in the 16U and 18U age classes, plus was Provincial MVP in 2007. Kierstyn Bakker, also 17, comes from Oak Park Collegiate and garnered All-Star honors at the 2009 17/18U National Team Challenge Cup in Toronto.
