November 18, 2009 1:34 PM | News

City of WinnipegThe City of Winnipeg will be conducting controlled burns beginning Thursday in natural areas throughout the city. Weather conditions permitting, the burns will last until Thursday, November 26.

The locations where burning will take place include King’s Park (150 Kings Drive), Rotary Prairie (1101 Regent Ave. W.), southside median of Charleswood Bridge and Little Mountain Park.

These controlled burns will be conducted in minimal wind conditions with appropriate fire guards in place.

The city says a lack of fire allows for weeds to invade endangered plant communities. The burns have been taking place since 1986 to help the preservation and restoration of prairies.
