Mounties Begin Christmas Check Stop Program

December 4, 2009 6:12 AM | News

RCMPThe Winnipeg Police Service announced their Christmas Check Stop Program earlier this week, and now the RCMP is doing the same.

The RCMP’s program begins today and will continue until Sunday, January 4, 2010. All units of the RCMP in Manitoba will be participating in this program with the objective of keeping Manitobans and roadways safe.

Not only will the program focus on impaired drivers, but those who fail to wear seatbelts.

Last year, 5,610 vehicles were checked across the province during 197 check stops/roving patrols. 41 people were charged with either impaired driving and 34 people were charged for not wearing their seatbelts.

A safe alternative is to consider calling Operation Red Nose, which operates in various communities throughout the province.
