Downtown BIZ Gets into Holiday Spirit

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ - Holidays 2009The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is planning a number of events this weekend to help get folks into the Christmas spirit.

The festivities began Friday, but continue today in various locations throughout the city — and it’s all free!

From noon to 5 p.m. today, you can catch the horse-drawn carriage for a ride at Air Canada Park, 355 Portage Ave. at Carlton St. Staff will be handing out free hot chocolate, prizes and there will even be a winter bonfire to cozy up to.

Rides leave every 30 minutes from the park and include a historic tour. The 20-minute ride loops down Portage Avenue from Air Canada Park down Memorial and up Vaughn and back down Portage Avenue.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a Holidays Craft Market in the atrium of the Manitoba Hydro building (360 Portage Avenue), with the Downtown BIZ Holiday Choir entertaining shoppers all day.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is offering free parking in the Millennium Library Parkade and Shops of Winnipeg Square Parkade for all attendees. Look for a Downtown Watch ambassador to get your validated ticket.
