The fine structure for speeding offenses in Manitoba will change next year.
The provincial government announced Wednesday drivers will be charged a base fine of $7.70 for every kilometre per hour over the posted limit.
Previously, fines were placed into one of 10 set categories to determine how much a driver would pay.
For extreme cases of speeding where a driver has to show up to court, the threshold has been reduced to 100 km/h from 120 km/h.
About 14% of expenditures from fees and fines are expected to be recovered due to the changes, Manitoba Justice says.
