Beginning in June, travellers wanting to fly from Winnipeg to Iceland will have a new way of doing so.
Iceland Express will fly twice a week from the beginning of June, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. With the addition of Winnipeg, the airline’s destinations will increase to 27 — a historic high.
Go Travel Flights, a Canadian company, has been signed to sell seats between Winnipeg and London. Apart from London, Iceland Express offers connecting flights from Winnipeg to Copenhagen, as well as other Iceland Express destinations throughout Europe.
The Winnipeg Airports Authority and Travel Manitoba both believe this will be great for the local economy, as it provides additional employment hours for ground crews, and a new European market to promote tourism.
Iceland Express will lease five Boeing airplanes, each holding about 200 passengers.
