RCMP were busy this holiday season with their annual Check Stop Program, in which 3,135 vehicles were checked between December 21 and 27.
91 check stops/patrols were setup across the province, which resulted in 21 people being charged with impaired driving and 3 being charged for refusing a breathalyzer.
The average blood alcohol reading was 0.160 — twice the legal limit — and the highest reading was 0.260 — more than three times the legal limit.
Six 24 hour suspensions were also handed out and 35 people were charged for not wearing their seatbelts.
During the same period last year, 45 people were charged for impaired driving related offences.
