Some confusion popped up Wednesday night when a new Facebook profile titled “City of Winnipeg Media” appeared online, which to anyone working in the media, would seem like the social media profile for the city’s Corporate Communications.
We quickly checked to verify if it was in fact an official profile, but the city says it isn’t.
“No, we don’t have anything like that,” spokesperson Michelle Bailey told ChrisD.ca. Bailey says the name of the profile could confuse people, and the city will work with the administrator to have them change the name, or post a disclaimer citing no affiliation with the City of Winnipeg.
According to new information added to the profile, it is “dedicated to tracking down various media from Winnipeg.”
Bailey said Speak Up Winnipeg has a group on Facebook, but not the city, nor the Mayor’s office.
