It hasn’t been 2010 for long, and already there’s good news for music fans everywhere.

Just as the clock struck midnight on Friday, Chris Cornell posted on his Twitter that his band Soundgarden would be getting back together. “The 12 year break is over & school is back in session,” Cornell wrote.

The band first formed in 1984 and split in 1997. Since then, singer Chris Cornell has been working on solo projects, as well as a stint as frontman for Audioslave.

The band’s website shows an e-mail form fans can plug into to stay up to date on any upcoming tour/album, etc.

Additional details on the reunion and what it means for fans aren’t yet known.
