Slight Transit Delays During Olympic Torch Relay

As the Olympic Torch Relay zips through Winnipeg streets Tuesday, there will be a few minor disruptions and delays to transit service along the routes.

Tuesday, January 5

  • 4:30 p.m.: The Olympic Torch Relay will start at Ed Golding Memorial Arena in Transcona affecting traffic on westbound Regent/Nairn from Day Street terminating at Watt Street.
  • 5:40 p.m.: continues along westbound Provencher from Archibald to Aulneau, then though Saint Boniface, Waterfront Drive to City Hall.
  • 6:15 p.m.: continues from City Hall via southbound Main, westbound Portage, southbound Memorial arriving at the Legislature Building at approximately 6:30 p.m.
  • 6:45 p.m.: continues from the Legislature Building via eastbound Broadway, northbound Main, eastbound York and arriving at The Forks celebration site at 7:00 p.m

Additional buses will be available on Main between Broadway and York to cater to those taking part in the celebrations and fireworks at The Forks from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Transit routes 1, 2 and 38 will continue to operate into The Forks terminal until 4:30 p.m., after which buses will re-route via eastbound William Stephenson, southbound Waterfront, westbound York to Main and regular route.

On Thursday, January 7, the relay will travel through the city starting at 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. affecting traffic on westbound Portage from Erin Street to School Road.
