The Zamboni at The Forks will be powered by French fries this season — sorta.
Officials say the Zamboni used to clear the Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail was fitted with an engine that would burn differently last summer.
The machine will run on wasted vegetable oil from fish, fries and perogies.
“The mini donut you eat today will help clear the trail tomorrow,” said Paul Jordan, Chief Operating Officer
Local company Western Turbo completed the conversion.
According to feedback on Twitter, the output will actually smell like French fries. Very clever from a marketing standpoint … entice ice skaters with the smell of fries after their spin on the ice. Cha-ching!
