U of W’s Secret Digital Easter Egg Hunt

January 8, 2010 10:52 AM | Columns

The University of Winnipeg is creating a viral Internet movement based around a neat Easter egg hunt on their website.

The Division of Continuing Education has embedded a Konami Code into its website. In plain English — the code allows visitors to access secret, or hidden content by using select key strokes.

Facebook has a similar “cheat,” which users can perform by using the arrows on their keyboard.

The U of W’s Easter egg can be found by doing the following:

  1. Go to the University of Winnipeg Department of Continuing Education
  2. Enter the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A)
  3. Reveal your surprise (Hint: a U of W video game to distract you from doing any work — hey, it’s Friday!)

The hunt has been receiving a lot of publicity … just look at the Google results.
