A local band comprised of university students will kick off the Funk Hunger Tour 2010 to support Winnipeg Harvest this Friday.

Wang the Merciless will play to help curb poverty and hunger at the Pyramid Cabaret.

“We wanted to draw awareness to poverty and hunger and felt it was important to extend the feelings of generousity and caring well beyond the holidays and start 2010 on a funk-hearted and community-minded note,” said lead vocalist Mitch Kruse.

Other acts of the night include John Blackwood and the Housewives, the Playing Cards, and DJ DubZero.

Tickets are $10 at the door, or only $5 with a non-perishable food item.

Doors open at 9 p.m.
