River Trail Extended to Hugo Street

January 11, 2010 1:25 PM | News

The river trail at The Forks hasn’t quite reach its record-breaking distance just yet, but it’s now open to the Hugo Street dock, officials said today.

Skaters along the Assiniboine River were out this past weekend enjoying the warmer than usual temperatures, and traffic on the ice should only pick up this week with a high of 3°C on Tuesday.

“With the unseasonable warm temperatures expected for this week ice conditions may not be perfect,” said chief operating officer Paul Jordan in a news release. “We are advising everyone to check the web site and use caution before heading onto the trail.”

Ice conditions are updated daily on RiverTrail.ca.

No word yet as to when the trail will extend to 8.54 kilometres, which helped it capture a Guinness World Record. Weather conditions will play a major role.
