Power Outage, Water Problems Affect Parts of City

Monday didn’t start off well for a number of Winnipeggers affected by a widespread power outage that slowed water pressure in the city.

The trouble started at 7:30 a.m. when power was knocked out to several street and traffic lights.

The city said Monday afternoon the reason for the lack of water pressure, or no water at all, was due to power being lost at three local pumping stations.

The outage affected water pressure in areas such as Tuxedo, downtown, River Heights, St. Boniface and St. Vital.

Emergency crews were dispatched to numerous areas of the city and the problem was resolved around 8:30 a.m.

The widespread inconvenience is being blamed on a traffic collision that occurred near St. Boniface Hospital where a crossing light was knocked down.
