Despite a sluggish economy, The Winnipeg Foundation was still able to grant $20.8 million to 670 charitable projects in 2009.

The numbers released Wednesday — part of the 2009 Annual Report — say the foundation surpassed its previous record by $1.6 million.

CEO Richard Frost credits the success to the generous support of donors, which helped to create 148 new endowments, raising the total number of funds to more than 2,100, with assets of $443 million.

The Winnipeg Foundation will hold a series of free public information sessions January 25-29 around the city. For times and locations visit www.wpgfdn.org or call 944-9474.
