There’s plenty to do on the Assiniboine River Trail this season — if it cools down enough to freeze again.
Winter programming was unveiled Wednesday afternoon at The Forks, and includes events on Louis Riel Day, February 15. Organizers say the response last year to programming at the Festival du Voyageur on the same day was a huge success. That’s why they have decided to also offer programming on the River Trail as well.
“Valentine’s Day will also be highlighted on the river with “Hearts on Ice”. People will be able to have their loved one’s name etched into an ice heart and then paint it to further personalize their gift. The heart is theirs to carefully take home,” a news release read.
The Forks said the trail brought out massive crowds last weekend; comparable with those only seen in the summer months.
