Fans Rally to Bring ‘Lilith Fair’ to Winnipeg

The summer music festival known as Lilith Fair hasn’t taken place in over 10 years, but that will soon change, as a group of female artists kick off their 2010 tour.

Originally making its run from 1997-1999 and co-founded by Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan, Lilith Fair raised over $10-million for women’s charities throughout North America.

McLachlan will be performing along with other artists this year, including Tegan and Sara, Sheryl Crow, Metric, Norah Jones, Sara Bareilles, Heart, Colbie Caillat and Chantal Kreviazuk, just to name a few.

The ladies will tour the U.S. and Canada in July and August, but Winnipeg didn’t make the cut. Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, and as of recently, Edmonton, are all on the list.

This news doesn’t sit well with local radio personality Dez Daniels of 102.3 Clear FM. “We are hoping to get the word out to Winnipeggers that at this point, Lilith Fair is not including Winnipeg as a stop on it’s tour. For shame!” Daniels has rallied her listeners to join a Facebook group called Lilith Fair — Winnipeg Wants You! More than 700 people have joined so far in support of the concert tour.
