It’s budget day at City Hall, as the 2010 Operating Budget is set to be tabled later this afternoon.
The city hosted round-table meetings in January to get a sense of what citizens wanted included in this year’s budget. Among the hot topics is the property tax freeze, which residents could see for a 13th year.
Some councillors are for lifting the freeze to fix streets and sidewalks, but Katz has gone on record to say the freeze is necessary to attract more people to choose Winnipeg as an affordable place to live.
Mayor Sam Katz and Finance Chairman Scott Fielding will table the budget around 1 p.m. It will be debated in council in March.
