Last Weekend to Take in Festival du Voyageur

February 19, 2010 7:40 AM | Entertainment

The final weekend for Festival du Voyageur is upon us. The 10-day festival will wrap things up Sunday, but there is still plenty to do before festivities come to a close for the 41st year.

Tonight’s big event will be the Beard Growing Contest starting at 7 p.m. at the Voyageur Trading Post (Franco-Manitoban Cultural Centre), 340 Provencher Blvd. Participants will be judged in three categories: The Festival Beard (clean shaven as of December 10), the Voyageur Beard (wild and woolly) and the Novelty category (groomed mustache or beard). Global TV weather specialist Craig Larkins has been competing and began with a clean mug back in December.

On Saturday night from 7 p.m. to midnight, five local DJs will gather at Voyageur Park to spin more than four hours of music. LeBeato, DJ RPG, Mike B, Rob Vilar and Jamall Knight will provide a mix of house, techno, electro, R&B and more.

Earlier on Saturday, a jigging contest will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Voyageur Trading Post. A fiddling contest will commcene at the same venue Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

A complete list of events is available at FestivalVoyageur.mb.ca.
