Homegrown athlete Jon Montgomery has made his hometown of Russell, Manitoba very proud after winning gold in men’s skeleton. The 31-year-old used-car salesman and auctioneer took the competition Friday night.
Montgomery was the favourite sliding into this event at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Analysts predicted he would walk away with some hardware, and he lived up to the expectations.
His win down the icy sliding track at the Whistler Sliding Centre moves Canada’s medal count up to 8.
Martins Dukurs of Latvia won silver and Alexander Tretyakov of Russia won bronze.
