The Manitoba Children’s Museum is getting a makeover after announcing plans this week to renovate the recreational complex for kids at The Forks.

The $10 million renovation campaign will create twelve new galleries, construct a 3,500-square-foot Welcome Centre addition and a new Arts and Exhibition Centre for special events and performances. A new gallery called Tot Spot will cater to the museum’s youngest visitors, and 12 innovative multi-level galleries will please the bigger kids, offering discovery opportunities based on a building blocks concept.

The museum has already raised $7.3 million, which include a $5 million federal and provincial infrastructure contribution.

Originally opening up in 1994, the museum will close during construction in the fall of this year and reopen in the spring of 2011.
