Over $1 million in damage is being tallied after a fire destroyed 16 suites of an apartment building on the west side of Swan River over the weekend.

RCMP say the fire began early Saturday morning on 1st Street South.

All residents made their way out of the building safely, including a cat.

The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner continues to investigate the cause, which police say is considered suspicious.
