City council approved the 2010 Operating Budget Tuesday with a vote of 11-5. After nearly a 3-hour debate, the plan to not increase property taxes for the 13th consecutive year was put into place. Other highlights include an expansion of the tax credit for small businesses, which will see 36% of businesses get a full rebate of municipal business tax.

The Budget also made room to put 8 additional police officers on the street, 12 more paramedics, and an investment of $3.1 million into Assiniboine Park.

Also outlined were increased operating hours at three library branches: Henderson, Pembina Trail and Westwood.

Both Mayor Sam Katz and Scott Fielding, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee of Finance, were pleased with the outcome of today’s events at City Hall.
