Two Buffalo Calves Find New Home on First Nation

March 29, 2010 5:43 PM | News

The Sioux Valley Dakota Nation will be home to two buffalo calves, donated by the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Mayor Sam Katz was on hand Monday to make a presentation with the certificate of health to the buffalo to representatives of the First Nation. One of them is a sacred white buffalo, which holds a strong place in the spiritual culture of many First Nations.

The zoo’s curator, Dr. Bob Wrigley, was also on hand and received the gift of a sacred quilt, along with the Mayor.

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is located about 45 km west of Brandon.
