Fargo Mayor Tours Floodway, Wants Similar Structure

Fargo, ND mayor Dennis Walaker toured the Red River Floodway structure south of Winnipeg Thursday along with Premier Greg Selinger and other provincial officials.

The diversion has caught the eye of officials in the U.S. as a way to mange the Red River every spring, and now Malaker hopes there’s money allocated to the eventual creation of a similar structure in North Dakota. The state and federal governments would need to be on board before the idea could become a reality.

Watch:

The Floodway became operational for the first time this season last Sunday, as flood waters began diverting around the city.
