Spring breakers currently in North Dakota and Minnesota doing some shopping could be in for a detour as early as Saturday.
Today’s rainfall could accumulate to amounts forcing water levels along Highway 75 to raise enough to force a road closure. Flood forecasters predicted weeks ago that the highway would be closed this season, but when that would occur wasn’t exactly clear.
What was clear is that it could close for several days, causing an inconvenience to travellers and a financial burden to the trucking industry.
Last year, Highway 75 closed April 7, so we’re a bit ahead of schedule in comparison.
If the highway does in fact close this weekend, Highway 59 would be the shortest alternative route for making your way back into Manitoba.
