The call has been made for youth nominations as part of the 2010 Lehotsky Scholarships to honour the legacy of Reverend Harry Lehotsky.
Mayor Sam Katz, together with New Life Ministries, are inviting the public to nominate individuals for the scholarships.
The Lehotsky Scholarship Fund was created in 2006 to award scholarships to young Winnipeggers who have significantly contributed and have acted as an advocate for health and safety for the citizens of Winnipeg’s West End.
“Reverend Harry Lehotsky demonstrated a commitment to community building and ownership that all our citizens can continue to learn from,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “Harry’s outspoken ‘walk the talk’ mentality brought a refreshing attitude of honesty to the problems and challenges our city faces. With this scholarship opportunity, we are hoping to build on Harry’s legacy and encourage young people in our city to lead from the positive example Harry set for all of us.”
$5,000 in scholarships are awarded each year by the Mayor to eligible recipients at City Hall. Preference is given to candidates between the ages of 18 and 30 who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the West End community through volunteer work, community leadership or other contributions.
Nomination forms are available online at SamKatz.ca.
The deadline for submissions is June 11, 2010.
