The Winnipeg Goldeyes open up training camp this morning in preparation for the upcoming Northern League baseball season.
Twenty-five players will look to impress manager Rick Forney to fill up to 23 available positions on the roster during the two-week session. The latest addition to the list of players suiting up came with the announcement of returning slugger Kevin West on April 20 — a veteran on the team.
Also this week, the Goldeyes hold their annual Open House on Saturday, May 8, the same day single-game tickets to all 50 regular season home and pre-season games go on sale. Gates open at 10 a.m., where tours of Canwest Park will be given, and fans can oversee the team training on the field beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
