Carman RCMP are investigating the death of two individuals after an incident Saturday in Sommerfeld.
Police were called to a residence just after noon where they found a deceased adult female. The investigation determined the woman had been murdered.
Police are also investigating the apparent suicide of an adult male from Altona in relation to this incident.
Autopsies on both the man and woman will be performed in Winnipeg at a later date.
No names have been released, as the investigation continues.
Sommerfeld is located about 100 km southwest of Winnipeg.
UPDATE: Monday, May 10 — The murder victim has been identified as Brandy Lenton, 35, of Sommerfeld. An autopsy on Monday showed Lenton was shot to death in her home. The suspect in the murder has been identified as Melvin John Nickel, 63, of Altona. Police say Nickel shot himself outside his place of employment in Altona. Lenton and Nickel knew each other.
