Students Lecture Speeding Drivers with Safety Message

May 14, 2010 4:13 PM | News

École Taché students Sam, Caitlyn and Danica were lecturing speeding drivers Friday afternoon as part of the Winnipeg Police Service’s “Talk or Ticket” initiative.

Police were targeting motorists with a heavy foot on Provencher Boulevard near Langevin Street, but were giving them the option of receiving a written offense, or something less expensive: A safety message from one of the participating sixth graders.

The idea was to educate drivers on slowing down near schools and playgrounds. The students selected to participate entered a writing contest within their school and submitted a written copy of the message they would be delivering to drivers in their English class.
