The Louis Riel Library at 1168 Dakota Street will be closed today until the end of June while undergoing renovations.

Crews will work to replace flooring, carpeting and slap on a fresh coat of paint throughout the building. The service counters and furniture will be replaced, and the creation of a new designated teen area will be constructed. New lower shelving for greater accessibility will be installed, as well as a new and improved layout for collections, seating and computers. The list of renos also calls for an upgraded meeting room, tutorial room and self-checkout kiosk.

The city says the space will be bright and welcoming when completed.

Louis Riel Library will forward holds for pickup to the St. Vital Library, 6 Fermor Avenue, during the closure. Library material can continue to be returned to the Dakota Street location during renovations.
