Taché Avenue between Rue Despins and Avenue de la Cathedrale is still closed today after the city shut down the stretch of road abruptly on Monday afternoon.
The cause of the closure is only being referred to as a “void” in the road, which if you look at the above photo, is about six feet deep.
The city says crews are working to find the cause of the void, the extent of damage, and the amount of time required for the repairs.
Repairs to an underground water drainage pipe will also need fixing, which puts the roadway in St. Boniface out of commission at least until next week.
Vehicle traffic is being temporarily re-routed around the area. Pedestrian and bike traffic on the nearby sidewalk is not affected.
