Sod was turned Thursday morning on the future site of the new Winnipeg Blue Bombers stadium.
Watch:
The field at the corner of Chancellor Matheson Road and University Crescent will also be home to the Manitoba Bisons football team by its completion in 2012.
The $115 million project at the University of Manitoba will seat 33,000 fans and be expandable to 40,000 for Grey Cups. The total price tag for development on the site will be $137.5 million after a multiplex athletic facility is built for the Bisons.
CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon said Winnipeg will host a Grey Cup at some point once the stadium is built.
Officials with the U of M, city, province, and Creswin Properties, were on hand for the sod turning ceremony.
