Goldeyes Ready for Action in Home Opener

May 20, 2010 6:58 AM | Sports

The Winnipeg Goldeyes officially open the 2010 season tonight at Canwest Park, as the Fish take on the Northern League’s newest expansion team, the Lake County Fielders.

It’s the first year for the Illinois-based Fielders — owned by actor Kevin Costner. Some baseball fans are buzzing that Costner himself may be in the stands tonight, but there’s no official word on that one yet.

The opening pitch will be thrown out just after 7 p.m., as Matt Kniginyzky, 27, of Oakville, Ontario will start things up for the Goldeyes. Tonight is also the first Tweetup Party at the park for those of you on Twitter.

Friday’s game will see Mark Holliman go to the mound for Winnipeg, Chris Salamida on Saturday and the 2009 NL Pitcher of the Year Ace Walker on Sunday, to close out the series.

Tickets to all this weekend’s games are still available at the box office or through Ticketmaster.

Tonight’s game will be available on Shaw TV, with the rest of the games available on 1290 CFRW.
