The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is making a cash donation to Siloam Mission today following its recent graffiti challenge. A total of $540 was raised after the BIZ agreed to donate $20 for each call it received from the public reporting graffiti in the downtown area.
At the same time, the BIZ will also launch the Neon Broom Program — a program by Downtown Clean Team to power wash the sides of buildings, sweep the sidewalks and beautify local businesses with flowers. The Clean Team will visit 100 businesses cleaning their property, and leaving behind a little gift such as a neon broom or a flower pot to remind businesses to keep their properties clean and take ownership of their neighbourhood. At the end of the summer, the Order of the Neon Broom is awarded to three businesses that have made an extra effort to maintain their properties.
The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ will celebrate today’s events with a free pancake breakfast this morning from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the plaza outside the new Manitoba Hydro building along Graham Avenue and Edmonton Street.
