It’s a great day for gardening, and that’s just what the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has on its mind.

The BIZ will raise 102 jumbo flower baskets along Portage Avenue later today between Main and Spence streets, starting on the north side of Portage at Main Street.

Each flower basket will be placed on street light poles, and weighs over 200 pounds measuring three feet in diameter.

“This is just another part of making downtown a beautiful environment for both pedestrians and drivers,” said Stefano Grande, Downtown BIZ executive director. “These flower baskets add a splash of colour to downtown every summer.”

The BIZ Clean Team will raise 22 flower baskets on Main Street and Graham Avenue next week and spend the rest of this week planting flowers in planters on Graham, Vaughan and all around downtown.

The baskets will arrive to Memorial Park, where staff will prep them before they go up.
