More than 100 passengers were on board Saturday as the first ever Iceland Express flight touched down in Winnipeg shortly after 5:30 p.m. The Winnipeg Airports Authority’s fire department provided a ceremonial water arch over the 737 jet as it taxied along the runway.
Watch:
The airline announced plans earlier this year to make a trek from Reykjavik to Winnipeg twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning July 7 to September 11.
As passengers streamed into the international arrivals area, they were greeted with Canadian souvenirs and Icelandic folk music from local choir Solskrikjan.
